Getting Started
When you first open Killik Lifetime Planning you will see the below wizard, which gives you the option to pre-fill fields where we hold existing information on you, or to start with a blank canvas. You still have the option to edit, add or remove information if you choose the pre-fill option.
You can then click through and input as much information as you would like in order to create a picture of your circumstances.
At the top of the page there are four buttons to help you navigate the page.
Clicking this button will take you through a tour of the page, showcasing the main features of Killik Lifetime Planning.
This will open up the walk through wizard again. Changing details here will adjust your chart straight away, make sure you are ready to clear the data before selecting 'Pre-fill for me' or 'Start with blank canvas'.
Use this to reset your Killik Lifetime Planning chart. All data that you have added will be removed and you can return to your initial picture.
This will take you through to a feedback survey. As we move forwards with Killik Lifetime Planning we want to make sure we are shaping it to your requirements. If you have any feedback for us, we would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to fill out the survey and help us develop Killik Lifetime Planning to your needs.
Your chart
Below you can see an example of what your Killik Lifetime Planning chart might look like after completing some of the data points.
Current Circumstances:
The first box, Current Circumstances, shows your current age and current wealth in Killik. These are both non-editable fields.
Peak Savings:
Your Peak Savings represents the point at which you expect your savings will be at their highest during your lifetime, this is often, but not necessarily, related to a retirement date.
Peak Savings Age - the age at which you expect your savings to peak, this is represented by a dot on the chart.
Peak Savings Target - the target value that you need to reach to provide you with the income you require after your Peak Savings Age. This is represented by a dotted horizontal line on the chart.
Wider Wealth:
Wider wealth covers any wealth that you hold outside of your Killik Managed Services. This could include anything from the savings you have within Silo, to outside pensions, cash savings, or property.
If you choose to pre-fill your information, this will be populated with any wider wealth data we hold for you within Killik. If you have started from scratch, or need to add in any further wealth you can add them easily here.
You start by choosing the type of wealth you are inputting, for example a General Investment Account (GIA), you can then add a description and the value of the wealth. A return rate will be set automatically depending on the type of Wider Wealth you have added or you can add your own return rate.
Finally, you can choose whether this figure is included in your chart. Simply toggle Yes or No to include, or if you want to remove it entirely, click delete.
Future Events:
Future Events consist of any foreseeable calls on capital you might have, such as buying a house or paying for a wedding, plus any foreseeable income events where you expect to receive an income, such as selling a house.
You have the option to add both a one off or a regular withdrawal and a one off or regular contribution. You can add a description to the event, mark it with a related icon, input the occurrence, and the date/s at which the event will happen. Finally you can input the total value of the event.
Once you have added in Future Events they will appear along the bottom of the chart, marked by the icon you have chosen to represent the event. Clicking on the icon will open the below pop up showing what the event is, with the further information.
Your portfolio
The chart will automatically show your information, and your current portfolio. The X-axis represents age / timeline. The y-axis will show the value of your wealth over time.
Along the x-axis you will be able to see any of your Future Events.
By hovering over the chart you will be able to see the projected value at a particular point in time.
Finally for more information on your investment portfolio with Killik & Co, simply click the information icon on the corner of the Your Portfolio button.
Portfolio information
Managed Investment Services: Clicking on the information icon will open up the below side panel with a summary of your current service/s allocation. This will show a summary of how your current services are allocated, including the service split percentage, and the long term return for each service. At the bottom of this table will be the total percentage of your services, plus the average long term return across your whole portfolio.
Risk & Returns: Long term returns look at the expected long-term return of the service based on the historical long-term return of its underlying benchmark versus the MSCI World Index. This pulls out key metrics around your portfolio including upper and lower return rates, target beta, average 1 year volatility, and 5 year lower return rate.
Upper Return: This is the expected best 20-year annual performance of the service based on the historical long-term return of its underlying benchmark versus the MSCI World Index.
Lower Return: This is the expected worst 20-year annual performance of the service based on the historical long-term return of its underlying benchmark versus the MSCI World Index.
Target Beta: This is the expected long-term volatility of the service based on the historical long-term volatility of its underlying benchmark versus the MSCI World Index. This is a measure of the risk of the service relative to the MSCI World Index, where 1.0 would be in line, <1 would be a lower risk and >1 would be higher risk.
Average 1 year volatility: This is the average volatility of the underlying benchmark over any one-year period over the longer of the past 30 years or since the benchmark was created. This a measure of the risk of returns over a one-year period.
5 year lower return rate: This is the worst performance of the underlying benchmark over any five-year period over the longer of the past 30 years or since the benchmark was created. This is a measure of the maximum historical loss over a five-year period.
Other Services: If you have other services within Killik, they will be included in the 'Other Services' table. As seen below this could include as an example a Special Situations Portfolio, Advised Portfolio, or anything you hold within Silo. The percentage of your overall portfolio will show against each service, as will the long term rate, with the bottom percentage showing the overall portfolio of Other Services. Your Managed Investment services total and Other Services total will equal 100% of your portfolio.
Portfolio comparison
Below the x-axis are four extra boxes: Cautious, Balanced, Steady Growth, and Equity Growth. By selecting one or more of these investment approaches the chart will show a coloured dotted line in the corresponding colour indicating what your portfolio might look like if your Agreed Investment Approach (AIA) were different. The four approaches show examples of what the portfolio would look like, for example a Cautious portfolio typically holds 30% equities, 60% bonds and 10% alternatives, compared to an Equity Growth portfolio which typically holds 100% equities. Your investment approach may differ to these examples but will fall within asset allocation guidelines.
By hovering over the chart, with any other Investment Approach selected, you can see the difference in projections associated with the Agreed Investment Approach/es you have selected.
Clicking on the info icon on any of the Investment Approaches will bring up the side bar, once again showing an example portfolio associated with a given Agreed Investment Approach. This information box will also show the Long Term Return for each of the allocated services, with an average of the portfolio at the bottom. The Long Term Return is the midpoint between the lower return and upper return.
Below the Managed Investment Services breakdown there is a breakdown of the Risk & Returns for the Investment Approach. This splits out the Lower Return rate, Upper Return rate, target Beta, Average 1 year volatility, and 5 year maximum drawdown.
Hovering over the Investment approaches at the bottom will show up the Return funnel, exhibiting the lowest return rate and highest return rate for each approach.
Lower Return: This is the expected worst 20-year annual performance of the service based on the historical long-term return of its underlying benchmark versus the MSCI World Index.
Upper Return: This is the expected best 20-year annual performance of the service based on the historical long-term return of its underlying benchmark versus the MSCI World Index.
If you want to remove added data and start again from scratch, simply press the reset button. This will remove any of the data you have input, restoring the Killik Lifetime Planing tool back to your starting point..
